Bonny Cepeda, born Juan de Dios Cepeda on January 11, 1954, in the Dominican Republic, is one of the most influential figures in merengue music. Known for his energetic performances and charismatic stage presence, Cepeda rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s as a bandleader, singer, and composer. His music blends traditional Dominican merengue rhythms with modern arrangements, creating a sound that appeals both to dance audiences and mainstream listeners. Often called “El Merenguero de Siempre”, he became famous for hits that helped define the genre during its international expansion.
